George Mahoney (Former Faculty)

December 13, 1941 - April 7, 2024

 

With sadness, we report the passing of George Mahoney.


After studying about human rights and upstanders in their GoLead curriculum this year, grade 7 students created their own arpilleras around an upstander story about a person in their family, community or a well-known upstander that inspires them.


Englewood - George F Mahoney of Englewood, FL died April 7, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 13,1941 In 1959 he entered the Society of Jesus. He matriculated at Fordham University and Woodstock College. In his scholastic years, he taught at his former alma mater, Brooklyn Preparatory School. He left the Society in 1973 and taught at Friends Seminary in NYC until 1976. He returned to theological studies at Weston College in Cambridge, graduating in 1977. He was ordained a priest in 1978 and served in various parishes in the Worcester Diocese. In 1991, he left ministry and established his own training and consulting business. Upon retiring in 2009, he and his wife moved to Englewood, FL.


He leaves his wife of 31 years, Diane, a stepson Eric Dilling, a stepdaughter Karen Moffatt and five grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Michele Skobla and six nieces and nephews.
