James Cooke IV '93

James Negley Cooke IV, of West Palm Beach, passed away on January 1, 2023. He was born on January 12, 1975 in New York City to James Negley Cooke III and Gail Hipp Cooke. He was raised in Manhattan and East Hampton, New York and attended Friends Seminary. He graduated from Parsons The New School for Design in New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography. His professional pursuits included fashion photography, artistic design, real estate and investing in start up companies. An expert skier from his youth, he came to also love surfing and fishing.


He was a loving and devoted father to his daughter Cora, who survives him. Other survivors include his mother, maternal grandmother Frances McCreery, sister Anne Cooke Mitchell, brother-in-law Jeffrey Mitchell, niece Lauren Mitchell and nephews Grant and Alec Mitchell. Also surviving are his former wife, Sarah Yansura Cooke, mother to Cora.
