Dear Friends,
The 238th Friends School year has come to a close. How did we reach June so quickly? Since the last newsletter there has been a lot of activity within the Friends community. I am excited to share a brief recap, with detailed stories and pictures to follow to paint a clearer picture of the events and news from 16th Street.
After returning from spring break in April, we welcomed members of the Alumni Council and Board of Trustees on campus for Visiting Day to experience a day in the life of a Friends Seminary student. This special day was followed by the Alumni Council’s fifth edition of We’re All Grown Ups Now, featuring Maria Fahey. During the event, moderated by Jodyann Blagrove ’94, Maria recounted some of her favorite memories during her 36 years of teaching at Friends. Later in the month, the Friends community joined together in the Meetinghouse to celebrate the life of beloved former Classics teacher, Phil Schwartz, sharing memories and holding his family in the Light.
We were overjoyed to have over 200 alumni, faculty, friends and family take part in this year’s Reunion on May 17 and 18. Retiring faculty Judy Anderson ’66, Larry Carter and Bob Rosen were honored for their combined 134 years of service during the Emeritus Ceremony. We were proud to have both our most recent graduates, as well as alumni stretching back to the Class of 1956, in attendance!
Lastly, on June 6 seventy-seven graduates of the Class of 2024 officially became members of the alumni community. We hope you can welcome them with open arms and share how the Friends Seminary culture, rooted in Quaker values, remains the fabric that connects us as ‘friends’ across the decades.
In stewardship,
Michael Mudho
Director of Alumni Relations
